High Court

The High Court is a superior court in Malaysia, with unlimited civil jurisdiction and the power to hear the most serious criminal cases, including those carrying the death penalty. It also hears appeals from the Sessions and Magistrates Courts. There are two High Courts, for Malaya and for Sabah and Sarawak.
When it matters
A scam-related civil claim goes to the High Court when the amount involved is large or the case is legally complex, such as one needing a Mareva injunction or a tracing order across several accounts. For most individual scam victims, a Sessions Court claim is more common, so a lawyer’s assessment of your case helps confirm the right level.
