CMA 1998
Updated 2026-09-29
The Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA) is the law governing telecommunications and online communications in Malaysia. It covers offences such as improper use of network facilities, which can apply to fraudulent calls, messages, or content used to run a scam. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) regulates under this Act.
When it matters
If a scam involved spoofed calls, fake websites, or fraudulent messages, MCMC may be a relevant channel alongside your police report. This sits alongside, not instead of, reporting the financial side through NSRC 997 and your bank, since the communications angle and the money trail are usually handled separately.
