Penal Code section 424
Updated 2026-09-29
Section 424 of the Penal Code covers dishonest or fraudulent removal or concealment of property, or of any interest in it. It can apply when someone hides assets, such as moving money out of reach, specifically to avoid a claim or judgment against them.
When it matters
This becomes relevant if a scammer or account holder appears to be deliberately hiding money once they know you are pursuing them, whether through the police or a civil case. It can support a report to CCID and may strengthen the urgency of applying for a Mareva injunction to freeze what remains before it is moved further.
