How to screenshot chat and call evidence
The conversation is still there, and how you capture it now will matter later.

Why a full capture matters more than a few key messages
It is tempting to screenshot only the messages that seem most important, such as where money is mentioned. A full conversation is more useful, because it shows how the relationship or approach developed before the request for payment came.
Context often explains why a payment made sense to you at the time, which matters when someone else is trying to understand the case later. Leave in the ordinary messages, not just the dramatic ones.
How to capture a long conversation properly
Scroll from the very beginning of the conversation and take overlapping screenshots so no messages are missed between captures. Include the timestamp visible on each screen, since the date and time of each message matters.
Some apps let you export a full chat history as a file, which is worth doing in addition to screenshots if the option exists. This gives you a backup that is harder to lose than a folder of separate images.
What call records can add
Save your phone’s call log showing the number, date, time, and duration of any calls with the scammer, even if the call itself was not recorded. This still shows contact took place and helps build the timeline around your transaction chronology.
If you have any voice notes sent through a chat app, save those too, since they are treated similarly to messages. Note any phone number used, since it may also help a police report link the case to others.
Keeping screenshots organised
Save images in a dedicated folder named clearly, and rename files or add notes so you can find a specific date later without opening every image. Back up the folder somewhere other than just your phone, since a lost or reset device should not mean losing your evidence.
Avoid editing or cropping screenshots beyond what is necessary, since an unaltered image is more useful than a tidied one. If you need to hide unrelated personal details, note that you have done so.
What to do next
Once your screenshots and call records are organised, they form a core part of the file you bring to a police report or hand to someone assessing your case. Read what not to delete after a scam to check you have not missed anything.
A well organised set of screenshots often speaks for itself. It saves time for everyone helping you piece the story together.

Common questions
Do I need to screenshot every single message, even small talk?
Capture the full conversation where possible, since small talk often shows how trust was built before money was involved. If the conversation is very long, prioritise the start, the parts about payment, and the most recent messages first.
What if the app I used deletes messages automatically?
Screenshot what remains as soon as you notice this, since some apps remove messages after a set time. Note the app name and the fact that messages expire, which explains any gaps in your record.
Are call logs from my phone useful if I did not record the call?
Yes. A call log showing the number, the time, and the duration still shows contact took place, even without recorded content. Combine it with any messages sent around the same time to show what the call was likely about.
